"We were inspired by God's precious gift of Jesus to reduce spending on ourselves, so leaving more valuable resources to give to those with nothing."

Advent Devotional - Week 3 : Isaiah 9:6 - Jesus Our King
Light a candle and spend some time with God
Read Isaiah 9:6 - Jesus Our King
"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity." Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)
In Isaiah 9:6 we have some names of the Messiah telling us something about the character of Jesus. As we celebrate the gift of the Prince of Peace, often it seems that God’s will for peace on earth is hard to see through the turbulence and suffering we see when we switch on our TVs, read our newspapers, or open our eyes to what is happening around us. Jesus shows us a different way of living. His path is characterised by justice, mercy and nonviolence. Christ’s justice involves restoring our relationship with God and God’s kingdom on earth – freeing it from exploitation and oppression, both spiritual and physical. What sacrifices, what lifestyle changes, will Christ’s justice ask of us? And when we work for justice do we do it with Christ’s humility? Think about how you might quietly move out of your comfort zone this Advent season, to sacrifice time and material benefits as you love others and help restore God’s kingdom.
