"We were inspired by God's precious gift of Jesus to reduce spending on ourselves, so leaving more valuable resources to give to those with nothing."

Advent Devotional - Week 4 : Luke 2:6-7 - Jesus : Sharing Our Humanity
Light a candle and spend some time with God
Read Luke 2:6-7 - Jesus : Sharing Our Humanity
"And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them." Luke 2:6-7 (NLT)
The Emperor Augustus was born in a palace, plied with luxuries, with innumerable servants to wait on him. The Son of God, Saviour and King of Kings, was born in a stable, among animals, and laid in a feeding trough. The elite of our world, and even we ourselves, come wrapped in all the luxury that we can afford or charge to our credit cards. The Son of God comes swaddled in poverty. Jesus shared an experience, however, with all of humanity. He was born, just like us, small and dependant. He chose to take on our vulnerability and was reliant on others for love, care and nurture. Perhaps God made us all vulnerable so we could learn in our dependence to be open to the love of others and ultimately to the love of God, a love amazing and divine. This is the love we can see in the manger.
Even though we are small and dependant, we are not insignificant in God’s eyes. We are greatly loved! Why else would God come to earth as one of us?
