Grant and Miho's Blog: Hope for Japan

We are Grant, Miho, Allie, and Zoe Buchholtz. Since 2010, we have been serving as Evangelical Covenant Church (an American-based denomination) missionaries to Japan.

Miho grew up in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, while Grant grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, USA. They met in France while Grant was working with OM, church planting with a French pastor. They lived in both Boston and Edinburgh, which is where their first daughter was born, before moving to Japan. As you can tell, they love travel and adventure.

Given that Japan is only 1% Christian and the average church is under thirty people, God has given us a vision to reach out to the younger generations and create a church community where they can find life and hope. In 2014, we have founded and lead Tokyo Life Church in the Ikebukuro area of Tokyo. It is the world’s 2nd largest train station, with over 3 million people passing through this area daily. Our vision is “to be a diverse community in the greater Tokyo area that will give life and bring hope, so that Japan will experience the Gospel and be transformed.” We are a bilingual church with already members from six nations.

Our ultimate dream is to reach the younger Japanese generations and raise up young leaders. We hope to create a church planting movement where Japanese are trained and equipped to bring the gospel into more communities across Tokyo and throughout Japan.

If you know people in Tokyo, we would love to meet them and welcome them into our community. If you ever visit Tokyo, we would love to show you our wonderful city and allow you to experience our community.

Thank you so much for your support and prayers. We look forward to our next time in Edinburgh.
